| Day 8 - 12/7/04
Dalhousie Springs Rest Day by Mitch
7.15 am - awoken to the refrain of Black Betty by Spiderbait (William’s choice) appreciated by all the Toyota people, bar one Nissan person with a rather limited vocabulary.
David, Jim, William and James said their final goodbyes and left for Oodnadatta and home south to Adelaide. Now the group was down to eight vehicles. The kids reported that the springs were steaming with an early morning mist. This encouraged others to go down for a swim and enjoy the healing waters.
A leisurely breakfast of lemon pancakes from Peter was completed. Darren then started brunch with the cholesterol special of a King’s breakfast with rump steak, bacon, eggs, cheese and muffins looked magnificent. Others washed clothes or went swimming.
Most of the rest of the day was spent relaxing around our small campfire, discussing, comparing, sewing (Blake!), computing (Peter), checking recipes (Kristen & Leanne), reading books, 4wd mags and Better Homes and Gardens.
Kath and Terry prepared a double damper, which was immediately devoured by one and all delicious with jam or golden syrup. Later we went for another swim, while Darren prepared garlic with side orders of lamb roast with vegies. I was privileged to be invited to dinner and despite our best efforts there was still plenty for their breakfast the next morning.
After the evening fines (donations to Royal Flying Doctor) session, several again went down for an evening swim and to watch the stars at night from a warm relaxing soak. The new Sergeant at Arms (Ivan) again did a fine (sic!) job, but was outdone by Darren with about 30 fines to actually allow him to be exonerated from any fines that evening. Thankfully, Ivan declared the rest day was now over and donation would get more serious tomorrow.
Darren advised an 8.00 am start (CAT) or 7.30 am (EST). Terry indicated he would lead an early morning swim group at 6.30 am. Most were in bed by 10.30 pm ready for the early start.
Mitch

No doubt about it. Early morning at Dalhousie is magic.

Poor old Terry... He lost a thong (or did he find a shoe?)

Rear end of a dingo roaming the camp.
Ivan looking resplendent in LCOOL polarfleece. You can tell he's ex-army by the slight angle on his beanie.

It's after 5pm and LCOOL etiquette demands that formal attire is worn around the camp fire - hence the black LCOOL stubbie holder.

Yet another glorious sunset.
