CMI Toyota & LCOOL's 2004 Double Simpson Desert Crossing

Day 5 - 9/7/04

What was to be a leisurely morning, proved to not be the case as everyone was eager to hit the road early for a tasty oona burger. Everyone that is except for Darren and GG, who were last to pack as usual. The road out of Pedirka was in excellent condition as was the road south to Oodnadatta. The road south proved to be entertaining with rolling hills giving all of us a taste of weightlessness at one point or another.

Oncoming traffic was again a problem at times because many oncoming drivers still hog the centre of the road and drive at high speed - so that on several occasions some members were almost forced off the road. Morning tea stop at Fogarty Claypan was a good opportunity to organise a group photograph of the entire convoy (except for the Tamworth connection that elected to not stop). GC, ZC and Dave drove out onto the lake bed and positioned themselves to photograph the remaining vehicles driving across the lake abreast with one another.

Orders were taken for lunch and Ivan radioed them ahead to the Pink Roadhouse at Oodnadatta - Some 23 burgers and piles of chips. Most were surprised that they managed to eat the entire meal because they were quite large in size.

The raffle was drawn and the day’s fines were collected before we ventured back outside for our final group photograph before those who were not completing the double crossing left. Goodbyes were said and with a touch of sorrow, the group split up and went our own ways.

Zac & GC

Early morning at our Pedirka camp site.

Daz opened 'er right up expecting rain. Just as well he did because the night remained dry.

Peter washing up before leaving for Oodnadatta. He is conscious of his precious hands and used a delightful pair of yellow gloves.

The convoy takes off across a dry lake bed.

Quite a sight as they drove past over the dry cracked earth...

The Pink Roadhouse is a landmark at Oodnadatta. It also became our base for lunch and presentations.

A bit of local colour in the form of pleasant guitar out the front of the Pink Roadhouse.

Parking was limited with such a big group at Oodnadatta.

Our final event before those heading off home left. A sea of red and black LCOOL shirts contrasted against the pink paint.

Mitch won something.....

Lads look on while Ivan steals a swig.

Lynne from the Pink Road House donated a top for an additional prize.

Norm reaches into Terry's bucket to select raffle winners.

John wins Lynne's shirt.

Cath won the prize for the highest amount of tickets purchased.

Kristen and Katie hand out fines.

They're struggling to keep serious given the things they had to fine members for.

Dave hands Mitch his prize.

Craig won a set of tyre deflators. Good one Craig!

Peter Dudley won the cool KC Tools Tool Chest.

Cath accepts he ton of prizes from Dave.

Dave from CMI Toyota addresses us all.

Terry hands over nearly $900 collected for the RFDS. Well done Terry and everyone for participating.

The sea, nay, ocean of red and black shirts was cool.

Our final group photograph before splitting...... Sigh...
