Holes in Air Cleaner Housing
The air cleaner filter housing on the 4.0 L V6 Petrol Prado
engine has two small holes on the lower entry side of the air
cleaner element. If entering deep water such as a river crossing,
the two holes will will allow water to enter the air filter
element and potentially allow water to be drawn into the engine.
These two holes are primarily used to drain water, however in
the case where the water is deep, the opposite will happen.
It would be wise to familiarize yourselves with these holes and
be prepared with rubber bungs to plug them should the need arise.
In normal driving however, the holes should be open. They are
there for a valid reason.
